Getting Here

From the SOUTH coming up the East side of the Country (A1/M1):

Exit A1 at Scotch Corner and follow signs for A66 West. After about 20 minutes you will go past Greta Bridge. The road goes up the hill, take the right (filter lane to cross carriageway) marked BARNARD CASTLE/BOWES MUSEUM/EGGLESTON ABBEY. Follow this road over small bridge with traffic lights up steep hill. At T junction turn LEFT. Past Barnard Castle School and Bowes Museum (worth a visit) to Butter Market monument roundabout in middle of road. Exit roundabout at 3 o clock, ie up hill thru Barnard Castle. At top of hill take left signposted “Middleton in Teesdale”. (If you get to the mini roundabout and petrol station you have missed it). Leaving BC you will go past Glaxo on the right and golf club on the left. Stay on this road for approx 5 miles, it then goes down a steep hill with garage on left, corner at bottom. TURN RIGHT opposite garage (don’t miss this!), signposted Eggleston, Stanhope. Through Eggleston village, past Moorcock Pub on the right. Road goes round horseshoe bend with bridge then a long straight. On right hand side is a farm, then a house, then 2 fields further on set back on the hill is Laverock (if you get to cattle grid you have missed us). Turn right to take our private lane up to the farm, just before you get to the main house turn SHARP LEFT through a gated entrance in the wooden fence which leads down to the cottages.

From the SOUTH coming up the West side of the country (M6):

Exit M6 junction 38 Tebay and carry on through Kirkby Stephen and on to Brough then join the A66 East (right just after bridge). Follow this for about 20 mins then the A66 splits into 2, stay in left lane for Barnard Castle. Follow road for about 3 miles then you come into B/Castle to a T junction (castle will be to the right in front of you). Turn RIGHT then go over bridge and up into Barnard Castle (follow directions above from Barnard Castle).

From the NORTH coming down the West side of the country (M6):

Exit M6 at junction 40 Penrith and follow signs for A66 Brough. Stay on A66 until road splits into 2 (see above for remainder of directions)

From the NORTH coming down the East side of the country (A1):

A lot of options here depending on how scenic a route you would like to take! For ease and speed we would recommend exiting A1 at Jnct 60 Rushyford (near Durham), follow directions to Bishop Auckland, then Staindrop. As you come out of Staindrop village look for the RIGHT turning marked Eggleston (if you see secondary school on left you've just missed it). Continue on this road (approx 9 miles) to the T junction and turn RIGHT down the hill. Follow main instructions above turning RIGHT opposite garage.
