Welcome to Laverock Hall Farm, home to Laverock Lodge and Sheephaven Cottage, located just ½ mile outside the picturesque village of Eggleston, near Barnard Castle.
Steeped in history, these cottages were originally farm buildings dating back to the mid-1700s. Once serving as vital components of the farm's daily operations, Laverock Lodge stored feed and hosted annual sheep clippings, while Sheephaven Cottage was a haven for pet lambs and mothers requiring special attention.
In 2006, the decision was made to transform these historic structures into charming holiday cottages. The farm, previously owned by the Bainbridge family, found new stewards in Marcus and Mandy Bainbridge in 2006. Having rented the property since 1998, the Bainbridges, faced with the challenges of modern farming, diversified their pursuits. Harnessing their passion for Border Collies, they established Colliewobbles, an online and show-based business dedicated to Collie-related items.
Through Colliewobbles and their involvement in dog-related events, the Bainbridges discovered a growing demand for accommodation, particularly for those attending 'Ewe and Your Collie' Sheepdog Days on the farm. This led to the ingenious idea of converting the farm buildings into multi-dog-friendly holiday cottages.
Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Laverock Hall Farm offers breathtaking views, making it an ideal retreat for nature lovers and dog enthusiasts alike.
The journey didn't end there. Concerned about the safety of their children due to a derelict piggery on the farm, the Bainbridges decided to build an indoor Agility Arena. This 120-feet structure not only addressed safety concerns but also became a popular venue for local agility handlers and cottage visitors alike.
Despite challenges in the planning process, including the need for Bat Reports, the dream became a reality. Laverock Lodge and Sheephaven Cottage now stand as inviting holiday retreats with a rich history and modern amenities, welcoming guests to experience the beauty of the farm, its surroundings, and the exciting activities it has to offer. We, Kieran and Saki Drea, are honored to continue this legacy as the new proprietors, ensuring a warm and memorable stay for all our guests.
