Guestbook

Find out why we have a fantastic re-booking rate with some of our Visitors having been every year for 10 years !!

As well as comments about the cottages we ask our visitors to help suggest walks, dog friendly pubs etc. in the area. We have Visitors Books bursting with walks and ideas and below is a very small excerpt of the (sometimes several pages) of lovely comments that our Visitors have posted on the website

Had a wonderful peaceful week. The 4 dogs loved it and enjoyed the feet wash every time they went for a run around the field. Booked up before we came home for next Nov then saw on Facebook there was a cancellation for April ( lambing) so booked that aswell and I can honestly say I can't wait. Marcus and Mandy are lovely friendly hosts who don't bother you unless you need them.. couldn't recommend the place and the hosts enough. Roll on April!!!!! — Gwenda mcfadyen, 16 Nov 2019
Just home after a fabulous week on the farm with Marcus and Mandy. The kids loved the space, the animals and all the things to see and do. The dogs loved the field (the rabbits 😬), the agility barn and the beautiful walks.
Thank you to two exceptionally friendly and welcoming hosts for a really wonderful week in a truly dog friendly cottage.

The only downside of holidaying here was having to pack up and leave at the end of our stay. An amazing place for both humans and dogs alike and we genuinely couldn't have asked for a more relaxing break. Fantastic location with lots to do, but also a lovely quiet get away from city life on those days when you don't feel like venturing out. Very home from home style cottages where you feel like you can sit back and relax even with details such as calming plugins to help the pooches settle, located in absolutely stunning surroundings. Thank you so much for allowing us to come and we hope you'll have us back soon — Noel Greaves, 01 Jun 2018

Thanks to M & M for making us so welcome and giving us so much time to join in with the farm activities. The play equipment was a huge bonus and Josh and Reuben very good company for our children. George loved agility and the huge field to run around in, we thoroughly recommend Hamsterly Forest but dont forget the insect repellant!

Back for our second stay, had a fantastic time again. The dog is shattered doing agility every day and loads of walks, will definitely be back next year!

We have had a lovely time here! Learned a lot about sheep farming from Marcus who was very generous with his time. Rebooked for Sept 2012, your hospitality is fab!

A great week with the added bonus of the agility barn to keep a very active dog tired, we are taking very happy dogs home!!

Hi, this is Pip speaking. What a fantastic time I've had with my brother Pip and the Humans!

We have had a super week, although we played "dodge the rain" we have had some lovely sunshine too.

The week ended with a fantastic time with Marcus rounding up some sheep and then seeing them sheared.

Our 3rd visit has flown by, we intended to do lots of relaxing but only managed one really lazy day.

Like everyone else who's stayed here, this is the perfect holiday retreat for us dog lovers whose pets are part of the faily!

Mandy was very helpful and kind and Marcus was brilliant, going down to Barnard Castle to locate one of our party who had been let down by a psychotic sat nav.

Felt quite guilty as we didnt feel the need to go out out much at all, there is everything on the doorstep!

Next time?? Of course, - rebooked again for our 4th stay

This is our second stay here, we got to do some new stuff and some familiar stuff, a great visit again and am looking forward to coming back in September.

When people speak of "dog friendly" places we imagine run down places on their last legs but not so here at Sheephaven. A beautiful cottage that is very definitely dog friendly but also with all the comforts, style and detailed touches to make even the pickiest of "humans" a very happy camper!!

How fantastic this holiday has been, there has been some gorgeous lambs, fab trips out, some lovely weather, great agility training, collecting eggs, a barbeque for everyone and much more.

What a wonderful week from arriving and meeting Marcus and Mandy through to helping feed lambs and tours of fields checking for new lambs or mothers to watching agility training classes.
— -, 01 Apr 2011
Many thanks to Mandy for a very useful agility lesson, some ideas for us to go and work on

We have been made very welcome and hope to be back soon (if we can get in!)

Everything that can be said about Marcus and Mandy has already been said ...... and it's all true!!

What a fantastic place. We've ad a wonderful time here and the dogs enjoyed playing with their frisbees in the huge field. They didnt enjoy the showers so much afterwards though !!

Loved stroking the sheep and will definitely be back as I want to be here at lambing time.

A doggy and owners paradise!

Really enjoyable week, very peaceful and relaxing, Recommend to anyone.

Our first holiday with our dog, she thought she was in doggie heaven and we loved it too.
— -, 01 Jan 2011
Dogs loved the big field and chasing snowballs.

Snow, snow, snow but so beautiful, we can not add any more comments, it has all been said before so ditto ditto!

A lovely cosy cottage, beautiful setting and views, friendly owners always there to please and to have a chat.

We've been as far as Whitby in North Yorkshire and the Lake District to the West.

10/10 excellent, well worth the 5 hour drive to get here.

Lovely views, great set up for dogs and lovely hot water in the bathroom for relaxing in the evening, we will certainly be back.

Beautiful cottage, very well equipped, thankyou Mandy & Marcus for making a holiday with 5 dogs possible.

What a Find! Cottage is lovely and cosy, it's great to be able to bring our 4 dogs to somewhere THEY are specifically catered for! We're going home with our batterries recharged, thankyou.

This is a return visit after staying in the other cottage last year. Mandy & Marcus have truly embraced filling a gap in the market whereby dog owners with more than 1 dog can holiday in accomodation of a high and comfortable standard surpassed only by the accomodation for their dogs!

Thankyou for such a warm welcome to your farm and comfortable warm cottage.

Lodge beautiful, views leave you speechless. Def coming back next year if we can get in.

Thanks for a great break, places as everyone else mentioned. Scones at Bowes Museum well worth checking out!

This is the first holiday we have taken with our 4 dogs and they made themselves very comfortable! Marcus and Mandy are great hosts, the cottage is a perfect base to explore. Had or first agility lesson with our 18 month twins, it was great fun and Mandy is a very enthusiastic teacher!

This area is so beautiful, you can never tire of the views.

It is our last day today and we are very sad to be going home :-( Without a doubt we will be back.
— -, 01 Sep 2010
Local pubs are excellent, good hearty food at Moorcock of something a bit more special try the Rose & Crown at Romaldkirk which is pretty special.

We can't really say anymore thans has already been said. Absolutely excellent! See you next year x

Had a wonderul time, dogs enjoyed themselves no end. One week not long enough for all the walks!

The dogs have had the best time, we loved how accessible all these places are for people and their dogs.
— -, 01 Aug 2010
Butting lambs, rabbits to watch instead of telly and nesting sparrows to monitor - who needs more?

Having access to the field opposite the cottage to exercies the dogs was a real bonus,, espeically for our oldie!
— -, 01 Jul 2010
Had a fantastic holiday, enjoyed a couple of sessions in the agility area which the dogs loved.

The cottage was lovely and having the washdown room was lovely for the dogs.

Just to say a huge thankyou to Mandy & Marcus for making our holiday so perfect!

The cottage is beautiful and a complete home from home.

Thanks to Mandy for some very energetic agility lessons!

Good food at The Three Tuns, hopefully we wil be back soon.

We'll be telling all our friends in the dog club and North West Obedience club about this lovely cottage.
— -, 01 Jun 2010
Grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed petting lambs and collecting eggs, hopefully we will be back next year.

The views are breathtaking, even from the stock free field.

Dog Friendly pubs we can recommend include Rose & Crown at Romaldkirk, Three Tuns Eggleston, Moorcock Eggleston.

Great place, lovely cottage, Mandy & Marcus made us feel so welcome.

A very comfortable cottage, very relaxing. We have never been to the Northern Pennines before but we shall certainly come again.

The weather was glorious and we went home with 4 very tired BC's!

What a fantastic place! Love it!
— -, 01 May 2010
Lovely doggie friendly cottage with super 5 acre field to exercise dogs.

Great walk along the disused railway track (flat!)

Our day out on the farm with Marcus was great fun - I can now spot a fresh mole hill!

Like the other visitors before us, we agree that the cottage is fantastic for doggy people, well done Mandy & Marcus, dogs relaxed so of course we are happy.

Best time though was watching proper working dog bring in the sheep and helping Marcus dock lambs tails and castrate - ooh!

We now have an 8 hour drive home but it is well worth it!

Had a fabulous holiday, Brownlow Arms at Caldwell serve excellent food.

We've had a fabulous week, there is so much to do and the cottage is so cosy and comfortable.

Jess really enjoyed playing with Josh and helping with the sheep.

What a fabulous welcome, cottage adorable (did consider squatters rights!)
